Alexa is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern under supervision of Marisa Knight, LMHC. Alexa received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Oregon State University and went on to complete her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Palo Alto University. Alexa completed her clinical practicum and internship in private practice, where she worked individually with children, adolescents and young adults. She also co-facilitated intensive outpatient groups for adolescents addressing mental health and substance use.

Therapeutic Approach

Alexa is passionate about supporting adolescents and young adults while helping them navigate the inevitable challenges of life and heal from past trauma. Alexa has experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety and depression as well as disordered eating and substance use. Alexa’s therapeutic approach is client-centered and collaborative. She provides a safe, accepting space where clients are met with warmth and unconditional positive regard. Guided by an existential framework, Alexa’s approach encourages clients to explore and lean into their strengths while finding meaning and purpose through life’s most difficult moments.  

Alexa works with clients to build a robust toolbox of coping skills for emotion regulation, mindfulness, and self-discovery. She integrates psychoeducation and supports clients in exploring their identities to foster personal growth and resilience. She utilizes traditional evidence-based modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Alexa also incorporates Experiential Therapy practices to identify and process negative emotions.

More about Alexa

Alexa is originally from Seattle, Washington and moved to Mississippi 15 years ago when she met her husband. After vacationing to 30a for several years, she and her family moved to the area. She enjoys being outside, visiting the beach, practicing yoga and playing with her two small kids. Alexa previously owned a yoga studio and is a 500HR Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Instructor. She loves to introduce others to the power of yoga and has additional training and experience in trauma-informed yoga.
